Practice Owner & Veterinarian

Joanna Parson, DVM

I am a veterinarian and practice owner of Upper Arlington Veterinary Hospital and Northstar Animal Care. I was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY by Polish immigrants. My interest in the sciences and my love for animals grew strong throughout my childhood and I was heavily involved in animal rescue organizations in New York City. I was accepted into the Honors College at S.U.N.Y. Stony Brook and completed a Bachelors of Science in Biochemistry. I then received my veterinary degree from The Ohio State School of Veterinary Medicine in 2003 which is also where I met my husband and partner, Adam Parson. During the last three years of veterinary school I worked partime at Medvet Medical Center for Pets as a veterinary assistant in the department of Internal Medicine. Subsequently, I completed a veterinary internship in Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine at Medvet and was then hired on as a full time doctor in the Emergency Department for the next 5 years. My experience at Medvet has proven to be invaluable in my veterinary education and they are hugely responsible for shaping me into the doctor I am today. In May of 2008, I partnered up with my husband, Dr. Adam Parson, in general practice and purchased Upper Arlington Veterinary Hospital. My focus is to provide high quality medicine tailored to each individual canine and feline patient in a small intimate environment. My specific interests include internal medicine, emergency medicine, periodontal surgery, and pain management. I am happily married to Dr. Adam Parson and we have three children named Emma, Jack, and Chance whom we enjoy raising together in Upper Arlington. We also have 3 dogs (Hank, Julio, Bibby and Albert) and 2 cats (Mike and Nugget) in our family which keep also keep us busy. In my spare time I love my time with family, friends, and neighbors, as well as travelling, tennis, barre fitness, shopping, and her home. I feel truly blessed to practice in this community and to be able to work with such a wonderful staff who care so much about animals. I am grateful for all the relationships that have developed with my clients and pets throughout the years and look forward for what is to come in the future. I want to dedicate my success to my family and especially my parents who struggled and worked hard to give me every opportunity possible to succeed. Thank you, Mom and Dad.

Adam Parson, DVM

Hello, my name is Adam Parson. I love coming to work and practicing my profession. It has been a passion of mine from a very young age. My family and friends are very important to me, however, my career is a facet of my life that I love very much. Many experiences have shaped my life today and if you are reading this then you must want to hear about them, so here we go.....

I was born and raised in the small town Mt. Vernon, Ohio. This is where I obtained my first job during high school mowing grass and planting flowers for a fantastic veterinarian named Dr. Barry Reppart. Shortly thereafter I became part of the kennel staff and assisted in taking care of blue ribbon bullmastiffs which Dr. Reppart bred. He then took me under his wing as a veterinary assistant and I was offered the responsibility of assisting him in the surgery room. By this point I was hooked and never looked back. I continued to work for him through high school and during my future summers through my college career. I graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1993 and attended High Point University where I obtained a bachelors in Biology in 1997 and played on the Varsity Golf Team. My first attempt at admission into OSU Veterinary School was unsuccessful and I needed to expand my research experience to get into the program. I took a position in Dr. Krakowka's knotobiotic swine lab which was a grueling experience, but it helped me grow as an individual and ultimately helped me gain acceptance into the veterinary program. I graduated with a doctorate of veterinary medicine in 2002 and was accepted into an internship program at what I consider to be the premier specialty referral facility in America, Medvet.

Medvet launched me into the profession. During my twelve months there, I rotated through all of the specialty services and worked in the emergency department as an ER doctor where I learned more in 12 months than most veterinarians learn in a decade. This experience definitely gave me an edge in my field. This clinical experience is one that will always be remembered and the knowledge I gained is invaluable. I am always grateful to Medvet for their expertise and drive to be the best in the profession.

We bought our first hospital, Northstar Animal Care, in 2006 and then Upper Arlington Veterinary Hospital in 2008. We have been truly blessed with the pets and their families that we have gotten to know over the last 8 years. Our staff has played an integral part in our growth and make what we do even more enjoyable. My true passion and interest is surgery. I am proficient in soft tissue, orthopedic surgery, and ophthalmic surgery. Operating on the canine knee has been an area of focus in my practice as well continuing to offer new innovations in arthritis management including stem cell therapy and platelet rich plasma. If I am unable to offer a surgical option for my patients, I will refer them to the appropriate specialist. I pledge to myself that I will continue to grow in the field of veterinary medicine and will not become stagnant.

I am married with three kids. I met my wife Joanna, a Polish New Yorker, during veterinary school. We married in 2002 and ultimately settled in Upper Arlington where we have raised our 3 children---Chance, Jack, and Emma. My parents were both born and raised in Upper Arlington and life kind of came back in full circle for us. Now I understand how truly special this place is and how blessed I am to be able to raise my family here. They are the best kids in the world and we spend as much time as we can with them. Our goal is to share with them the experiences we have had so they continue to grow and become even more successful as good people who want to give back to their community. We have 4 dogs (Hank, Julio, Albert, Bibby), 2 cats (Mike and Chicken Nugget), beta fish, and hermit crabs. We love spending time with our family and friends and journey to the country to have fun hiking, swimming, fishing, and having campfires with the kids. I enjoy travelling, backpacking, and skiing. I have recently developed an interest in fitness including weightlifting and I am trying to be a runner, but that is still a challenge. I have served on the OSU Alumni Board as president and continue to be an active alumnus. I have enjoyed my time as a member of the Tri-Village Rotary and will continue to give back to the community with a great group of people.

I hope to meet you and have the opportunity to care for your beloved pet. I value the team we have and know we will exceed all your expectations as a local practice. Thank you for taking the time to get to know me. Talk to you soon.
